Despite the provocative title, Matt advocates a less disruptive and perhaps incremental approach to Data Mesh specifically aimed at those data teams who already operate operate an existing data lake composed of modern cloud services. He postulates that decentralized domain based team ownership can be achieved through common cloud infrastructure by taking advantage of the granular logical separation afforded by cloud services to achieve the necessary separation of concerns between domain teams through ownership enforced by access controls.
